Workshops to help UK based Chinese students find graduate work in China


The British Council, operating in China as the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy are running a series of workshop in the UK from 21 November to 27 November 2009.

The workshop aims to help Chinese students currently in the UK get better comprehension of the employers’ needs and the job market in China, as well as to prepare you to enter/re-enter the job market after graduation and enhance your employability and competitiveness in the field.
HR executives from China major employers will attend the workshop to give an overview on the competitive job market in China, and talk about various aspects of recruitment from employers’ view as well as to share successful experiences of other alumni via case studies.

Opportunities are also provided for attendees to raise questions during the interactive session to discuss their issues or problems encountered during the job hunting and career development.

The workshop will be delivered in Chinese.

Virtual Fair for China 9th - 13th November


Agcas Scotland are running a Virtual Careers Fair for Careers in China next week from 9th November to 13th November. You will get a chance to find out about possible opportunities in China for UK based students and to talk online to leading employers.

Careers in Asia Event 11-13 December, 2009


The Global Careers Company are running a 'Careers in Asia' Event in London in December aimed at Asian students for opportunities in their home countries. In particular there are opportunities for management trainees, engineering and other business related areas.

Students need to apply in advance before 23rd November and can get pre-scheduled interviews with leading recruiters such as HSBC, Astra Zeneca and Siemens at the event. It's a great opportunity to network with leading professionals and to make an impact for the job you want.

Calling all Thai-speaking Students: Part-time Job at Thai Restaurant Chaophraya, Liverpool One

Chaophraya Restaurant is looking for staff to work in its restaurant and its cocktail bar Palm Sugar. Some previous experience would be useful but not necessary as you will be trained. However it is essential that you speak Thai and good English and be familiar with Thai food. Talking Shop



On Wednesday, we had the third session of our 'Talking Shop's which centred around preparing for job interviews in the UK. Students had the chance to practise interviews themsleves and share tips on the selection process.

Other Talking Shops have looked at talking to employers at a fair and understanding the language behind job applications.

Talking Shop is a great way for you to practise your spoken language skills, make new friends and prepare for the UK job market. Our next session is on Wednesday 11th November at 3.00pm. National Insurance Number

If you plan to work in the UK, whether for a graduate position or for part time work, then you will need a National Insurance number.


Representatives from the National Insurance Office are coming in next week on Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th November from 10am-4.25pm each day. At the Part Time Jobs Fair students were invited to book themselves in for interview times.

We have about 20 places left, so if you would like to make an application for a National Insurance number, either call in to the careers and employability service and ask for Jane McQuinn, or email Jane at jane.mcquinn@liverpool.ac.uk and explain that you would like to book an appointment with the National Insurance office.

Placement Opportunities at iBM


IBM are offering placements for students through their International Student Hiring program who want to work within their "home" country whilst they are studying in the UK. For example, if you are from India studying at Liverpool University you could do a placment with them back in India. After graduation, you would work for IBM in India.
